Congressman August Pfluger spoke with Odessa’s CBS 7 News about the recent Nuclear Regulatory Commission's decision to license a high-level nuclear waste dump site in Andrews, Texas. The site, owned by Waste Control Specialists and Orano, is operated by Interim Storage Partners.

Local community members as well as Texas government officials have decried the plan by the federal government and the private company. In July of this year, Andrews County Commissioners’ Court signed a resolution against HLW in the county. Texas Representative Brooks Landgraf introduced a bill in the Texas House that was eventually signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott in August. This bill banned high-level waste in Texas. Still though, the NRC issued the license to Interim Storage Partners.

Congressman Pfluger told CBS 7 News that he will continue to fight federal overreach in this matter and protect Texans from being the nation’s nuclear dump.
